Luke 10:38-42 “Be Present” (Mary and Martha)

It’s still July, and Jesus still invites us to stretch and reconsider what we know. This month’s texts suggest vulnerability, compassion, presence, persistence, and an even-temper are qualities we are encouraged to cultivate as students of Jesus.

Last week we discussed the importance of extending compassion to those who need help, as did the good Samaritan. We also thought about extending compassion to those whose actions we don’t always understand, like those who passed by the wounded man on the road. Being compassionate doesn’t mean we are free to disengage from the challenge of our faith. The right choice isn’t always clear.

This week spend time with Mary and Martha. We will consider how these two women engage their faith differently, both trying to make the right choice.
