Luke 16:19-31
“Fire”
This week we meet Jesus, the Apocalyptic Social Prophet. In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, Jesus indicates that the self-satisfied entitlement of the wealthy has hellish consequences- in this life and the next. Teachings like this illuminate why the ruling classes of Jerusalem might seek to kill this rabble-rousing Jesus. By the end of the parable, the rich man has learned nothing. By the end of Jesus’ life, the ruling powers remained similarly blind to the consequences of their actions.
