Matthew 15:10-20
“Heart & Word”
Jesus starts today’s scripture with the words, “Listen and understand.” And as soon as Jesus stops talking, Peter says, “Explain this parable to us.” Oh, Peter! Simon Peter may seem the surprise choice for “The Rock” on which Jesus builds his church. But, again and again, Jesus demonstrates that what matters most isn’t our misunderstanding or mistakes, but our willingness to give it a go and admit when we are out of our depth. Why should this surprise us? For ourselves, the friends who remain in our lives aren’t flawless and perfectly wise, but the people who show up with their heart and humility. Why wouldn’t the Lord want the same?
