John 1:43-51
“Come And See”

Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” When Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, he said of him, “Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!” -John 1:46-47

There are so many humorous bits in the Bible, and this week’s reading contains a gem. Nathanael not only doubts but cracks on Jesus’ hometown. Jesus doesn’t miss a beat with his witty retort. Between Nathanael’s doubt and Jesus’ banter comes Philip’s invitation, “Come and see.” No one can recognize the divinity in your midst for you. We each have to see it with our own eyes. That recognition opens up entirely new options for our lives. Join us tomorrow as we continue our multi-week exploration of recognition of Jesus in scripture.
