Luke 24:36b-48
“Flesh and Bone”
This week, we return to the disciples hiding out in fear after the crucifixion, but this is Luke’s version. The risen Christ again reveals himself to be made of flesh and bone. In John, He is identified as real by his wounds—what He has suffered and survived. In this week’s reading from Luke, His living reality is affirmed by eating broiled fish.
Our readings this Easter season guide us through an exploration of who, exactly, is Jesus Christ. In these first two weeks, Christ is revealed to be wounded and human yet divinely transcendent. Our other lectionary readings this week guide us into the implications of this identity.
