Matthew 16:13-20
Kingdom Keys
Simon Peter may seem the surprise choice for “The Rock,” on which Jesus builds his church. Peter makes mistakes. Peter gets himself into trouble. But, again and again, Jesus demonstrates what matters most to him isn’t our screw-ups, but our persistence. Peter is a guy who is “all in” yet can admit mistakes, ask for help, and change course. He is exactly the kind of person who is needed to lead and unite a church that includes big personalities like Paul and James. Why should Jesus’ choice surprise us?
Jesus then tells Peter, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” What are the keys to the kingdom of heaven? How have they been used by the church? Why does this matter? Join us as we dig in on Sunday!
