1 Thessalonians 5:12-22, Mark 6:1-13
“Community”
Sometimes, we need a talking to. Sometimes, we need encouragement. A community can help us with both. Our readings from Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians and Mark’s gospel both remind us that if we have community, we have everything.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:12-22, Paul writes to the battered little outpost at Thessalonica. It has been hard. People have been lost. They have stuck together. Paul encourages them to keep at it. They are to support each other in the ways each person needs support- with admonishment, encouragement, help, and patience. Paul knows that together we can survive hardships we never could endure alone.
