Job 38:1-7, 34-41
Out of the Whirlwind

“‘Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind: “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up your loins like a man; I will question you, and you shall declare to me. Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.'”

We can comprehend the fullness of God with about as well as a fish can book airline tickets. God exists beyond time. This means God is untethered by cause and effect. Can you even begin to imagine this? This Sunday, we joined Job inside the tornado. Job cried out to God, demanding an explanation, but was met with silence. Now God responds but offers no answers. What if the only answer to our suffering is God’s assurance, “I am”?
