Mark 9:38-50
“Fire & Salt”

In today’s passage, Jesus seems to advise self-mutilation as preferable to living in the fires of hell but then concludes,
‘For everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is good; but if salt has lost its saltiness, how can you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.’

This week, we conclude our sermon series, “Both And.” We’ve been following the teachings of Jesus as relayed by chapters 7-9 of the Gospel of Mark. It is an ever-true observation that we often miss the larger point when we focus on smaller stuff. When we focus in on “sin management,” we miss the larger message that we cannot completely avoid self-inflicted troubles.

Everyone will be salted with fire.
