“Neighbor”
We conclude the sermon series, “Letter from Paul.” Paul’s letters to various Christian communities comprise the earliest writings of our Christian Bible, predating even the Gospels. “Letters from Paul” will explore Paul’s thinking and convictions. Our sermon series considered scripture from Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Philemon, Philippians, and 1 Thessalonians. We end this week with Galatians. Through these letters, we will learn more about the Apostle Paul and the meaning Paul made of Jesus Christ.
In this letter, Paul cautions that freedom in Christ is not freedom from all restraint. True freedom is love. A consuming passion is the opposite of the greatest commandment. Loving God and neighbor is the freedom to give, not the freedom to take. Surrender your ego. Let go of greed. Root yourself in Christ. Paul suggests that by surrendering ourselves before the cross, we find the power to lift each other in selfless love.
