Mark 1:9-15
“Rebirth”
On Ash Wednesday, we entered Lent. We are in a season of rethinking our choices and behaviors. Our Sunday scripture is Mark’s story of Jesus’ baptism, God’s announcement that Jesus is God’s beloved child, and Jesus’ immediate flight into the wilderness. Coming up out of the water, Jesus was reborn into a new season of his life– assured of God’s love. Yet, with his rebirth, Jesus entered a desert season. In this Lenten season of reconsideration, we ask, why do we expect our own happy and affirming changes to be easy?
