Luke 21:5-9

“Self Regard”

We continue with our pre-Advent exploration of spiritual disciplines as a way to stay in love with God. In this week’s scripture, Jesus reminds us that though enormously bad things happen, no hair on our heads will be harmed. If God loves us so much that we are sustained, even through death, we should also care for ourselves in this life. We are called to get good sleep, eat well, ask for help, walk outside, connect with friends, exercise, dress for the weather, and take care of our daily tasks. When undertaken with a prayerful heart, these activities become spiritual disciplines. Self-regard allows us to meet the larger challenge of living a profoundly Christian life- loving God and loving our neighbor as ourselves.
