Matthew 22:1-14
“Dress to Impress”
We are entering several weeks of baffling stories that ask us to reconsider who we think God is, a series called “Riddle Me This.” Sunday, we join Jesus as he tells the parable of a wedding banquet to which everyone was invited, but one man shows up inappropriately dressed. The host casts him into “outer darkness.” How are we to understand a God who first invites and then rejects? Was that even the point Jesus was trying to make? Let’s wrestle with scripture suggesting our invite to party with God can be revoked if we show up in the wrong outfit.
