Matthew 16:21-28
This week concludes the series “On This Rock”.
Simon Peter may be “The Rock” on which Jesus builds his church, but he is sinking in doubt, confused, questioning, and trying again. Maybe that is the point! Peter’s humanity speaks to his capacity for greatness. Even after Jesus promises Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven, the guy is still preoccupied with his hopes for Jesus, not God’s will. Jesus understands. In this Sunday’s scripture Jesus claps back at Peter, calling him Satan. Still, Jesus picks Peter. Peter is not a person who has it all together, but a guy giving this life his best shot.
